Earth Mother

(2001), Watercolor and Colored Pencil, 14” x 22”

I love Native American folklore, and the Lakota Genesis story touched my heart, especially since I had just had my only child the year prior to creating this piece.  Earth Mother is looking lovingly down on the beauty of the earth that she and Father Sky have created.

Double Woman Spirit

(2006), Watercolor, Colored Pencil, Acrylic on Paper, 20” x 30”

The Double Woman spirit comes from the Lakota Heritage and holds significance for me. The story goes – on the night of a child’s 13th birthday, it is said, that if the child sees the Double Woman Spirit in his/her dreams, he/she is destined for a life in the arts. In this image, the wolves (my representatives) see the spirit shadow of the Double Woman Spirit on the cliff face, affirming my life in the arts.

Hope’s Guardian

(2002), Acrylic on Paper, 11” x 17”

A contemporary approach to a Late Medieval angel.  She is a warm manifestation of my Catholic upbringing. This angel is beautiful and holds dearly, protectively, the Lamb of God, on a cold winter’s night with a waxing (new) moon.

Spring’s Angel

(2003), Acrylic on Paper, 18” x 24”

In this artwork, the angel is heralding the change of seasons and calling forth the flowers of Spring, by playing her golden flute in the cold of winter. I was experimenting with the fabric of the angel’s gown, trying to make it appear shear but respectable.
