Fine Art by Debra Sloan Gerard
Artist Statement
Art should create a reaction, self-reflection, emotion, or an idea. Using color and form, while combining ancient lore, and metaphorical themes, it is my hope, that my work provokes self-reflection and new awareness. My art is for those who seek visual story-telling and seek challenge in symbols and visual metaphor.
My ideas emerge from my dreams, life experiences, and my own mental health challenges, and are inspired by the Renaissance artists, like Albert Durer and many others who influence my thinking and work.
Acrylic, watercolor, gouache, charcoal, graphite and colored pencil are my favored media. I have sold my work in various galleries throughout the past 35 years.
